Eveline Armour talks to us about why her new role is all about giving tenants a voice
We spoke with Eveline Armour recently about her new role here at TPAS Scotland.
I joined the team in June as Development and Delivery Manager and it’s been a busy first few weeks! We’ve had the Annual Conference, the NGPA Awards, and I’ve been meeting lots of our members from all acrossScotland.
Why did you decide to join TPAS Scotland?
I am passionate about tenant participation and bring with me 27 years’ experience of working with tenants, staff, agencies and stakeholders in the social housing arena. I’m really looking forward to working with tenants, staff, landlords, agencies and organisations across Scotland on all elements of tenant engagement.
What did you do before you joined TPAS Scotland?
I was previously Lead Engagement Advisor for Scotland with Home Group for six years. Responsible for running customer involvement across six local authority areas from Dundee to Dumfries. I’ve have also worked with tenants at Almond, Edinvar and Castlerock Housing Associations supporting scrutiny, consultations, new build projects, planned works and more.
Why are you so passionate about giving tenants a voice?
Tenant participation and delivering great service has always been in my DNA. I’ve supported and mentored tenants and staff to understand and embrace participation, engagement and involvement. I work to motivate, inspire and empower others to have a voice, and not be afraid to use it. I want tenants to know their value, and just how crucial their input is inscrutinising services and making a difference, through recommendations for improvement.
I believe that engaging with tenants, and promoting consistency and cohesive working between tenants, staff and board reinforces and enhances communication, creating meaningful engagement as a key element to help landlords deliver great services.
What are your aspirations for the future?
I want to make a difference to the social housing sector in Scotland, and the opportunity I have with TPAS Scotland provides the perfect platform to be able to work with more tenants and assist more landlords to embed tenant participation as a core function in their organisations, to help achieve this.
