Embracing face-to-face learning on the TP Certificate course

The TP Certificate is a unique qualification delivered by TPAS Scotland for tenants and staff who want to improve their knowledge and skills and recognise the work they do in tenant participation.

Over the last 2 years, 15 tenants and 56 staff members have completed the course and graduated with an open College Network NI Level 2 Endorsed Course Certificate in Tenant Participation and Community Development.

Since the pandemic, the course has been run very successfully online, but listening to feedback from our members and the wider housing community, we understood that not everyone wanted to learn online, so we developed a face-to-face training element for the course.

In April 2024, the Wheatley Housing Group asked for an in-person course to be delivered to 15 of their staff through a combination of in-person training days, online support, and assessments.

This hybrid version has “hit the nail on the head”. As learners from this cohort have said:

“I have enjoyed the course a lot particularly the in-person sessions which were really helpful.”  David Craigie, Stronger Voices Officer at Wheatley Group East

“The blended learning approach to this course really worked well for me. Having the ability to speak with my peers in small groups, in an informal environment, is so much easier and more productive than trying to do this via an online platform like Teams.  I also appreciated the ability to talk to the course trainers when I needed a bit more information or discuss an aspect of the course in detail.   Working through the examples and questions online in my own time is also helpful as it meant I had time to digest the information following in-person training, rather than being expected to do it on the day.

The online material and videos are fantastic; a very useful resource to recap on the in-person training and a great guide for completing the online assessments.”  Rhuri Paton, Housing Officer, Wheatley Homes South

“Thanks so much for your patience and your support with the course. It’s been great and looking back on the materials and thinking about how it all relates to my role has really helped me get my head around what I’m doing and why.”  Katie Scrymgeour, Stronger Voices Officer, Wheatly Homes Glasgow.

Tailoring the TP Certificate to work for you

We can offer it to groups of staff and tenants or, if there are enough individuals interested, we can bring them together. We’ll make it work for you.

We can take it anywhere in Scotland. TPAS is national.

We can arrange for the assessments to be done in the real world too. Your learning comes first.

“We’ve seen the benefits this formal learning can bring, and we want to crash through any barriers that might stop tenants and staff building stronger engagement,” explained TPAS’ Eveline Armour.

The next intake starts on the 9th September 2024.  If you are interested in taking part, complete this short form here before 8th August and our team will be in touch.
