SAMH share strategies for people struggling with their mental health

In a recent TPAS webinar, Emma Straughan, Let’s Talk Project Facilitator from the Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH), allayed many of myths around mental health.  In this highly interactive webinar, Emma shared the reasons why some individuals don’t let others know they are suffering with poor mental health.  In her talk, Emma noted discriminatory factors, explored triggers for changes in mental health, highlighted how to recognise signs and changes – and what can be done to help these individuals by accessing support from SAMH and other organisations.  You can watch a recording here.

SAMH recommend 5 steps to better mental health;

Connect

Staying in touch with loved ones can make us feel happier and more secure; and often just having a chat can help to lift our mood.

Be Active

Being active isn’t just good for our physical health; it’s also proven to have a positive effect on our mental health and wellbeing.

Take Notice

Whether you’re spending time with friends or taking a moment for yourself, try to stop to take notice and be aware of the present.

Learn

Learning enhances your self-esteem and confidence and can be a great way to meet new people.

Give

Giving can be very rewarding – in fact those who report a greater interest in helping others are more likely to rate themselves as happy.

SAMH will be speaking at the TPAS annual conference from 21st – 23rd June in Clydebank on dealing with mental health, so make sure you book your place.
