Strengthening Tenant Influence Across the UK

Our CEO Eveline attended the TPAS England National Tenants Conference this month, describing it as “an engaging and thought-provoking opportunity to explore the shared challenges and future of tenant participation, community engagement and involvement across the UK”. Bringing together tenants, housing professionals, experts and sector leaders, the conference showcased practical approaches to improving services and strengthening tenant voices. Sessions on tenant scrutiny highlighted the importance of residents directly challenging performance, identifying improvements and influencing service delivery.  This is an area TPAS Scotland will develop further at its Scrutiny Summit planned for the autumn. A beginners’ session on Artificial Intelligence also demonstrated how responsibly used technology can reduce administrative work, improve communication and access to information, and create more time for meaningful engagement, with further discussion planned for the TPAS Scotland Housing Professionals’ Conference planned for January 2027.

The strongest takeaway from the TPAS England conference was the need for organisations to move beyond simply listening to tenants and ensure their views actively shape decisions, services and outcomes through genuine co-creation and partnership. “The conference was friendly, informative, motivating and empowering” said Eveline. “I left with a greater understanding of technology and renewed confidence that we are all working towards the same goal; ensuring genuine tenant influence helps shape better housing services and stronger communities. TPAS Scotland looks forward to working cohesively with TPAS England, TPAS Cymru and Supporting Communities to build on this shared ambition.”
