Join the TPAS board and work with people like Margaret

A tenant of Renfrewshire Council, Margaret Dymond has been on the board of TPAS Scotland for over 10 years.  Margaret is passionate about giving tenants a voice and loves the opportunity to give a tenant perspective on discussions and decisions during board meetings.

An active volunteer in her local Paisley region, Margaret is involved in lots of community groups from the Quality Circle Estate Management group to the tenant scrutiny panel for Renfrewshire and the Regional Networks representative for Renfrewshire (region 3).

Margaret said, “TPAS is an amazing organisation.  They are 100% focused on empowering tenants so they have the tools and information, both regulatory and non-regulatory, in place, to have their say in decisions being made by their landlord and the Scottish Government.   They run a fantastic range of webinars and I’ve learned so much by attending these.  As a tenant I’ve been active for many years in my local region, ensuring the opinions of tenants are heard by the people that count!   The skills I’ve learned through TPAS have equipped me, and given me the confidence, to do that.

All the members of the TPAS board are fantastic.  We have a great balance of landlords and tenants, meaning that there are different opinions and suggestions around the table.  We are strict in our governance responsibilities as it is important TPAS has members’ best interests at heart.   We meet quarterly and the work is not too onerous on the board.  I look forward to attending each meeting as there are different discussion points and items to vote on each time.  I have mobility issues (use a stick + have use of a scooter) and the team at TPAS make sure we are in a location that is accessible for me to attend.

If you are a tenant and are interested in helping to shape what happens in housing and policy, I would encourage you to come on board.  You will not just be a representative of TPAS, you will also represent your tenant organisation.”

At TPAS Scotland we are looking for people to join our Board.  If you would like to work alongside Margaret and other members on the board, we would love to hear from you.  Our Board of Management consists of six tenants and six landlord members, and our articles also allow for up to 3 co-optees. We are particularly interested in people with skills in Housing – being a Tenant, employed by Local Authority or RSL.

To apply, send your name and phone number to enquiries@tpasscotland.org.uk and we will be in touch.  Thank you.
