We are looking for nominations in the following categories.
Best practice in developing community
We are looking for examples of various ways that community needs have been met throughout this difficult period. This award is for effort that have promoted local pride and community spirit, built support systems, reduced barriers and enhanced physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.
The judges are looking or examples of teams including a mix of tenants, other community members, staff and board members, contractors, businesses and agencies who have by working together improved or built opportunities in their community and helped sustain individuals and limit the impact of COVID 19

Best Practice in Digital Involvement
Use of the Internet, social media, texting, etc. has seen a big increase in 2020. This award will seek evidence of how landlords and community groups have use digital methods to increase service user’s ability to:
- access services
- communicate their views on services and local issue
- communicate with their landlord and each other
Best Practice in Involving All
This celebrates how 2020 has seen an even greater emphasis on reaching out to people in our communities who face challenges to access services, support and getting involved. The judges are looking for evidence of landlords, tenant / community groups and organisations acting to aid and gather feedback from those who could have been isolated by the shutdown.This includes activities successfully meeting the needs of community members who are:
- physically disabled, have sight, hearing or speech challenges, mental health problems learning difficulties
- marginalised because of who they are, or because they are young or old, or are recent arrivals in our communities
- face challenges of geography, facilities, etc.

Tenant Participation Champion of the Year: Group
We are looking for a voluntary group who has made an outstanding contribution throughout the shutdown to maximise services, deliver support and listen to local people’s needs. We are seeking to celebrate inspirational efforts.
Tenant Participation Champion of the Year: Organisation
We are looking for an organisation (landlord, contractor, agency, body) which has made an outstanding contribution in 2020 and responded to the needs of service users. Their efforts will be inspirational and worthy of the highest praise.
Tenant Participation Champion of the Year: Individual Staff
We are looking for an individual tenant / member of the community who has made an outstanding and inspirational contribution in 2020 towards:
- Meeting the needs of the tenants and others in their community
- The community participating with and influencing services, performance and/or culture of participation.
Tenant Participation Champion of the Year: Tenant or Resident
We are looking for an individual tenant / member of the community who has made an outstanding and inspirational contribution in 2020 towards:
- Meeting the needs of the tenants and others in their community
- The community participating with and influencing services, performance and/or culture of participation.
Our wonderful winners from 2019
Alan Christie, Community Engagement Co-ordinator, Falkirk Council said Submitting a TPAS Award didn’t just mean a great deal to Falkirk Council as a landlord but, more importantly, to our tenant volunteers who give of their time and energy to help us improve services. The tenant volunteers felt valued since their work was recognised by Falkirk Council. The TPAS award scheme gave the perfect public platform to demonstrate the real difference volunteering can make. You can imagine their delight when they won, and were awarded at a glittering awards ceremony with people from all over Scotland there. This gave them the inspiration and motivation to do even more with their landlord and in their communities.’
Colin Turnbull, Director, Hawthorn Housing Co-operative, said we are delighted to receive the award for Best Practice in Involving All last year. It gave external recognition of our efforts from the leaders in tenant involvement. Committee members were particularly pleased that our work to involve some of our most isolated tenants/members was identified as best practice.
